“Your Place to Connect”
for Older Adult Services

To celebrate Senior Center Month and the theme of “Your Place to Connect,” we ask members to invite someone new down to the Senior Center during the month of September. Show them what we have to offer and invite them to stay for lunch. See page two of this newsletter for a list of opportunities offered at your local Senior Center and share this with those who might benefit.

Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser

Come one, come all to our Fall Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 20. Advance tickets will not be sold. Tickets at the door for adults cost $6, and $2.00 for children under 10 years of age. We hope to see many of our members there supporting the work of our nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the Spaghetti Feed will be deposited in the Senior Center Activity Fund for the benefit of our members.

Walking Program

Kim Shea and Diane Scott will lead a walking class at various locations around town. Participants are asked to meet at 8:45 a.m. for warm up at the Senior Center on Monday and Wednesday, starting September 13 through October 6. A minimum of eight people is needed to hold this class, so invite a friend to participate. Walking is one of the best all-around exercises that can be done to promote wellness. An added plus is the socializing that takes place and the friendships that grow through sharing this wellness activity together. So, encourage a friend to join this free walking class, and enjoy the beautiful fall weather together in Fergus Falls while doing something healthy.

Ask the Attorney

Jason Hastings, Attorney-at-Law, will visit the Senior Center from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22  for free consultations. He will help to answer some of the difficult legal questions participants might have pertaining to wills, trusts, estate planning, elder law and more. Appointments for free 30 minute consultations can be made by calling the Senior Center at 736-6842.

   Afternoon
at the Movies

September 13 - "Big Fish"

(PG-13, 125 minutes, 2003)  In this Tim Burton fantasy based on the novel by Daniel Wallace, William Bloom (Billy Crudup) tries to learn more about his dying father, Edward, by piecing together disparate facts from a lifetime of fantastical tales and legends of epic proportions. Ewan McGregor co-stars as the young Edward, a traveling salesman, with Albert Finney playing him as an older man. Helena Bonham Carter and Steve Buscemi also star.

September 27 - “On Golden Pond"

(PG-13, 109 minutes, 1981)  Henry Fonda—in his final role—plays peevish retired professor Norman Thayer, who’s making his yearly excursion with his wife (Katharine Hepburn) to their idyllic summerhouse. But a hostile teen left in their care short-circuits the couple’s tranquility. After a rocky start, the old man and the boy forge a bond: can Norman do the same with his estranged daughter? Fonda and Hepburn earned top Oscar honors for their peerless performances.

Registration is not required and there is no charge to attend. A microwave is available to pop your own popcorn. The Senior Center holds a motion picture license.

 Keep Saving SunMart Receipts

Thanks to everyone for saving their SunMart receipts and turning them in to the office. For every $150,000 worth of receipts saved, we receive $1,000 from SunMart. It's an easy way to raise funds for your Senior Center. So make it a point to start saving receipts today. Ask your friends and family to help too! We've raised $1,000 once this year already. Can we do it again?
